Percolators?
My mom wants a percolator for chirstmas and ive been looking at buying one. But i have seen mixed reviews on them, some people say they are great and others say they arnt good for making coffe and that presses are they best, what ever they are. Any info on this would be much appricated. Theres not much info on them besides what they do. And does anybody know if there are any ones that are better then others. Thanks in advance.

There are better ways to make coffee and it sounds like you heard about the French or Turkisk press. (you can Google about those yourself)

But if you're sure mom said "percolator" that is what I would buy her. The other methods taste different and use a different "grind" of coffee. Some are also harder to use.
My favorite is a stovetop percolator. I swear, it makes the best coffee! I got one at target.com for $20. I don't really like the electric ones.
Percolators have to be the absolute worst way to make coffee. Coffee always tastes burnt with a percolator since you pour the water over the grounds several times. Coffee isn't meant to be brewed that way. You don't see many percolators these days and it's no surprise why.

Get her a French Press. This is a form of brewing coffee where you put hot water over the grounds, letting the coffee steep for a few minutes, and then pushing the plunger down...which makes for a perfect cup of coffee. French presses are relatively cheap, you can get a really nice one for around $10-20. Plus, presses are so much easier to clean.
With percolators--you get nasty, bitter coffee
French presses--you get true coffee. You can smell the aroma, and that always makes coffee taste better.

However, if your mom really desperately wants a percolator, you might want to get her that just so she will be happy at christmas.
Percolated coffee is the absolute best way to make coffee. Drippers do just that, they drip through the coffee. Pressers are pretty good, too. But percolation brings out the coffee flavor and creates a bouquet and nose that transforms ordinary coffee into something delightful. Your mom knows what she wants. Get her the percolator. She's right.
Many of the older generation grew up with the peculated coffee and they associate the taste with their younger years. Todays coffee drinkers have become more 'refined' in their tastes and the percolator tastes burnt to them.
If your mother WANTS a percolator then that's what you should get her. If she is using the term as a general catch phrase for coffee makers, recheck with her.
